number 6 of the series introduces two further tracks of the sound adventure that superpitcher is taking us on this year. side a features protest song. if music is a way of transporting us to other places, protest song takes us to a desolate, scary and loveless environment, a burnt-down, burnt-out place where the flesh of its former inhabitants is smouldering, void of goodwill and kindness in a cloud of toxic and greedy smoke. it�s all kafka and orwell and suffering - the most twisted and eerie track so far in the golden ravedays saga. what is undeniably clear is an acute sense of regret and loss - a warning that it could have been avoided, had we only listened to our hearts and protested. in the same vein on side b we hear powerful resistance. produced after the paris attacks of 2015 superpitcher outdid himself with this strong message of resistance. where protest song paints a picture of under-worldly doom, resistance�s techno beat and insistent refrain sweeps us to the surface of the muck of hatred and intolerance we�ve politically been dumped in. a voice that seems like a trapped animal is calling out to us. what is it trying to say? is it crying out for help? is that animal all of us? resistance represents hope and encouragement and could be the perfect marching track to any demonstration against negative forces. much needed in this age of bigotry where it seems like time has leaped backwards to a darker side of history. as for the dancefloor � resistance is irresistible!

third and final chapter of the trilogy �devotion�, by one of the two owners of sublunar, sciahri, consisting of three limited, hand-numbered releases.
�devotion - part 3� is the final stage of the journey into the author�s sonic environment. the pace is initially fast and energetic, with �anathema� and �prostration� exploring different areas of the frequency spectrum through mysterious yet functional techno arrangements, which then lead us to the closing track of this whole excursion, �critical devotion�, a slow-motion uplifting anthem that brings us back to the surface.

the fourth release on bjarki and johnny chrome silver�s bbbbbb records, comes hot on the heels of the first. two and three are limited run, vinyl only, hand stamped releases to be sought out from your local dealer. bjarki returns as cucumb45 with the 5-track ep �something weirdcore�. on the surface there are elements of jungle, breakbeat, techno and rave, but to say this spans genres would be an understatement � it defies them. the title track instantly commands attention with breaks samples offset against indecipherable robotic groans and melancholic chords, but a sudden change of drum pattern shows this is more than a reprieve of known territory � it�s a voyage away from the limits of tempo and genre. this theme is explored throughout the ep by way of unnerving stripped back techno (akureyri), electro with subtle inflections of dancehall (comatack) and even a big beat/dub influenced jam (music for advertising). as cucumb45 plays with genres as we know them, so he does with the emotional resonance of the release. frequently switching from euphoric to anxious, each track is a testament to his incredible attention to detail. simply put, this is music for those who hate to be labelled.

aelfric michael avery has been a self-reliant artist for a long time. the canadian producer has been exploring underground acid and rough, homemade techno since releasing his first material as avery monarch back in 1994. however it wasn�t until more than ten years later that his music would surface again on his own napalm enema label. napalm enema has also carried work by the likes of faltydl, paul blackford and mrs jynx. avery has released just as much music under his acid elf guise, most notably appearing alongside +10 acid crew (jodey kendrick) for the sought-after bruvs acid ep, and now the alias makes a welcome return to vinyl with four essential tracks from the archives. there�s a subdued, hypnotic and delirious quality to the productions on this ep for arma, ranging from the uneasy delay pulses of fetus to the metallic clamour of urban wasteland, but most importantly they�re all injected with a distinctive personality that stands apart from the 303-tweaking masses.

btaim resumes its line of raw techno templates with a pair of stripped-back but funked-up floor killers. promising berlin-upstart tecture draws inspiration both from his hometown as well as detroit, delivering two highly effective yet emotive club weapons. their bold basement vibe may seem grim on the surface, but they glimmer with hope underneath. it is this very interplay between murk and melancholy that embodies the record with dynamic textures and a narrative. in similar fashion trevino pairs imposing low end rumble and bright arps, reworking the title track into his own dnb-reminiscent signature style. with the addition of btaim006 to their catalogue, both artist and label have placed themselves on this year�s watch lists for sure.

following his acclaimed scars of intransigence album of 2014, emile facey (plant43) is back on terra shipwrec. on skeletal rhythm supports strings and bass intertwine, link and disappear. facey performs audio alchemy, transforming cold chords into organic warmth, transfiguring electrical impulses into palpable emotion. frigid currents flow through bright bars, ephemeral percussion snap at heels of soaring keys as plant 43 draws you deeper and deeper into the bare and beautiful brilliance of grid connection.

following last years dangerously good depatterning lp, ipman returns to tectonic to deliver his latest instalment in bass-driven technoid mutations. constrict jumps straight into the deep end at 140bpm, diving head first into pulsing waves of warping, dynamic synth layers swimming back up to the surface for air. as the intro build peaks, the track effortlessly strikes when the bass drops in, charging the techno synth interplay with a sort of 3/4-step type rhythm shaping the movements. impeccable dance floor music that sits in an undefined zone between the worlds of techno, dubstep and somewhere yet defined. flip then for running man, which sees a sharp drop in tempo, bringing the speed down to 120bpm but maintaining the energetic build of constrict. starting from an almost empty space, running man takes an upward momentum, building and layering percussion and sonic textures as the heat of the chase takes full effect. dark and deadly, this is one for fans of sci-fi sonics and dread vibrations.

kuedo returns to planet mu with his long awaited second album �slow knife�. it�s been five years since his acclaimed debut �severant� and time has proved it prescient, its futuristic trap influence is now ubiquitous. �slow knife� seems to return to where �severant� left off, but with the intricate sound design of last year�s haunting ep �assertion of a surrounding presence� subsumed into the compositions, making them more exacting and beautifully crafted.

new years deal - the next chapter in the creme organization ecplise series comes from cosmic garden with three original tracks and one remix from orgue electronique. little is known about cosmic garden other than he is from southern italy and has had two eps out in 2016, one on hotmix and one on cosmic rhythm. he heads out the blocks here with reptilian treant , six minutes of lo-fi deep house that is roomy and atmospheric. lazy synths bring soul and a gentle chatter of claps and hits helps drive it along. rare centaur is also way below the surface but is darker and more celestial, with turbulent bass, frantic claps and angelic chords glowing like a white light at the end of a tunnel. dutch house and electro don orgue electronique then remixes reptilian treant into something that is slick and serene, with metallic lines dancing above rubbery drums as big piano chords boucle up top. it is joyous and colourful and truly majestic before final track apocalyptic moose takes us back down into a mournful house vibe that echoes chicago with its roughhewn analogue textures and lovestruck chords.
